Last weekend was the Hurstbridge Wattle Festival.  It is held every year at the start of spring.

An old steamtrain is brought from the train yards (not local) and they have rides running between a number of railway stations, just for one day only.

Whilst I have lived in this area all my life I had never seen this train before.  I used to hear it every year as a kid, and then when my kids where growing up, but finally I've seen it for myself!  Funny how those things happen isn't it?

This was first edited to give an aged appearance, then painted using the detailed watercolour.

The sepia works well on this Dianne, there isn't a lot of colour in a steam train anyway, except for the carriages, so why not? It adds to the nostalgia making it look like an old photo, a nice composition too.

I love the way you have got this surrounded by the lines of the railway and the lines of cables and overhead structures, they make a great contrast to the engine.

Great old look to it.  Old trains have a special character.
