    Thanks for the quick response.

It's sad to see there is no progress to this.  But I'm glad I found the SHIFT key trick here.

I am sorry to see that you are also experiencing this problem. If you could send me a copy of the same file, it could help us understand what is causing this problem. I will send you a direct message explaining which file it is that I need.

    Thanks
    Jennifer

Can you please try something for me? Can you re-start your system in "safe" mode ie: shut down your computer and re-start it while holding down the F8 key? While is "safe" mode, please try launching PE4 while holding down the Shift key, shut it down, then try launching it again without holding down the shift key and let me know if it will launch for you.

oxfrombws, can you please tell me which "flavour" of Vista 64-bit you are using? eg: Home Basic, Home Premium etc.

cintiq21, can you please tell me which "flavour" of Vista 32-bit you are using? eg: Home Basic, Home Premium etc.

    Thanks
    Jennifer

    I'm running Vista Business 64-bit.

I'll try the safe mode tonight after work.

    Hi Jennifer:

I followed your procedure and the PE4 starts up fine under safe mode with or with out holding down the left SHIFT key.

FYI: On the welcome screen under "Did you know:", it's showing "This Program cannot display the webpage!"

    Hello Jennifer,

Well, I hate to be the Odd man Out, but I did not have the same results as Ox had.  I started up my computer in Safe Mode only, no 'with Networking'.

Here is the message I got when trying to run PE4, and I quote exactly:

"This copy of Painter has been damaged or illegally modified.  Please reinstall form your original disks."

I can guarantee you I did NOT buy an 'Illegal' copy, but possibly damged version, of PE4 directly from Corel Indifferent

Thank you both of you for trying that for me. We are still trying to replicate this problem here and all these questions I am asking are helping us to narrow down what is causing this problem.

gmmiller65 I have sent you a direct message with a few more questions about whether you installed from CD or from a downloaded version of the application.

    Thanks again
    Jennifer

Hi everyone,   I just puchased this and after installation I'm having the same problems.  In addtion, my system freezes up and continuously stops responding.   I have 32bit Vista.  I really want this to work, so I hope a solution is found.  How much RAM does this app need?  I thought I had plenty, but perhaps I need more than 2GB?  Sadly, this might be going right back to Amazon.

    Hi Atlanta,

I am not positive on this, but I do know from what I've read that it was recommended that you have 2 GB minimum to run Vista.  I have this issue with PE4 going on my desktop and my laptop.  The desktop has 3 GB and the laptop has 4 GB of memory.  They are trying to pinpoint the issue as quickly as they can.

Atlanta, sorry to hear that you are also having this problem. If you purchased it from Amazon, does that mean that you purchased a box and installed is from a CD or did you purchase and download an electronic version of the software? I am going to send you a separate message, asking you to send me a file from your computer that might help us understand what is causing this problem. In the meantime, I know it's not ideal, but holding down the Shift key while launching the application will let you launch the application. We are working to try and understand what is causing this problem...

    Sincerely
    Jennifer

    Good news!

Our technicians were able to narrow-down this problem with launching Painter Essentials 4 to a conflict with Logitech Web Cams. I have followed up with everyone on this thread and have provided them a work-around as follows:

    -----------------------------------------

Type in "msconfig" in the "Search" area at the bottom of your Start Menu. (Depending on your settings in Vista it may prompt you for permission to launch the "System Configuration Utility")

Select the "Services" tab, and in the scrolling window on that tab, find the "Service" called "Process Monitor" with Logitech listed as the Manufacturer for it and remove the checkmark from the checkbox.

Click OK and re-start your system.

    ------------------------------------------

This seems to have resolved the problem with everyone I have spoken to that has tried it. If you are reading this post and are encountering this problem and this work-around does not help you, please contact me directly.

    Sincerely
    Jennifer

Well all I can say is I am impressed, this was never a problem to me personally, but to narrow down to this must have been quite a task, who'd have thunk it? A class act guys and gals - full marks for preseverence, and what a relief to have solved the enigma.

I wanted to pass along this information regarding the Logitech software.  I was given this on their forum board, and they are fully aware of the issue with the process that is, in this case, affecting PE4.

Good find! I'm having the same problem as described in these posts! I have a Logitech Pro 9000 cam.
When I first start Essentials it works fine. However, during the same computer session, it I close it, then re-open later, I would get the same screen as Cintiq21 posted.

It's rather late, so I will attempt the work around when I get in from work and see what happens.
