    Re: Freezing Computer

Hi Shane, I am not a computer expert but have some experience.  I have had my Intuos tablet for several months now.  I use CPE4 and have Windows XP. First of all it probably depends on exactly what your error message says and who its coming from. I mean does it come from the Wacom software, the CPE4 or other version software, is it a Windows message? They all may mean different things.

I found when I first got the tablet my programs would freeze consistently. I have never gotten a message though that said to reboot the tablet. Before for me, CPE4 could never be run when anything else was open and it would either freeze or yo9u had little control over the brushes, they were VERY slow.  So I had to increase my memory.  I was shocked at the difference in the way things ran. I still can't run Photoshop and CPE4 together too much.  I may increase my memory a little more for optimum results.  I actually was able to do it myself.

I think I saw a thread here maybe a week or so ago talking abut increasing memory.  You might search for that and see what it says.  You probably can check and see, depending on your computer type, whether you can increase your memory and by how much. Some of the CPE4 files are huge to say the least. But you may want to verify that is the problem.  It might be something else.  I think many of us here have tablets and some probably even use Macs.  Give us all some more details and I know you will have an answer soon.

I hope that at least gets you started.

To finish a work? To finish a picture? What nonsense! To finish it means to be through with it, to kill it, to rid it of its soul, to give it its final blow the coup de grace for the painter as well as for the picture.

Thanks for the quick response.  You know it's from windows and says "error with tablet please reinstall tablet driver".  I have been given this error message many times since buying my Intuos tablet.  I have noticed that when I run my Corel Painter program, and only after closing all other programs, Painter runs quicker

Well since the message is coming from the tablet/driver, you might try reinstalling the driver.  Or maybe even download a new copy of the driver and see if that helps. Unless someone else here has seen the same sort of thing for a different reason, that would be my suggestion.

If you shut the program down and it gets faster, some memory would probably help.   When you are working on a couple of really huge files and saving and reopening over and over, that is when I notice memory problems.  LEt me know if I can help more.

I had that happen once with my Wacom Intous and had to reinstall the driver- then it has worked fine ever since.  I believe you can unplug your tablet's usb, and then plug it back in to get driver reinstall window.  If not, go to Wacom website, under support, put your info in and they will give you downloads for driver and software.  I'm still using what came on the CD, as their newest driver and software constantly crashed my tablet on Windows XP. ( Oldest driver on their download page too at bottom- not fancy but works.)

On CPE4 I increased my system RAM from 1 to 2 gigs and the program performs much faster and better.  The RAM amount however doesn't effect the Wacom tablet, just how the brushes and other functions perform in CPE4.  I think I could almost use 3 gigs, but good enough for now.
